On Wednesday, October 21, 2015, a delegation from Peace Ambassadors for Iraq (PAFI), headed by Sheikh Jamal al-Dhari, the President of the organization, met with the President of the Republic of Latvia, Mr. Raimonds VÄ“jonis and the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. JÄnis DÅ«klavs. The delegation also included PAFI Chairwoman Mrs. Harita Tohme and her husband, Board Member Mr. Johnny Tohme.
PAFI announced that it will be working in coordination with the Latvian government to meet the needs of the refugees, which include special medical care, translators, food, and clothing.
Sheikh Jamal al-Dhari offered any and all help that he and PAFI can provide to the refugees, many of whom have come to Latvia from Iraq.

President VÄ“jonis and Sheikh Jamal al-Dhari discussed the underlying problems in Iraq and the Middle East that are driving refugees to Europe and the steps that the international community should take to solve them. In particular, the PAFI delegation and President VÄ“jonis examined the ways that Latvia can help to solve the ongoing crisis in Iraq.
Throughout the meeting, Sheikh Jamal al-Dhari emphasized that it is essential to provide effective, long-term solutions that address the underlying social, political, and security problems in Iraq and the Middle East that have led to the refugee crisis.
At the end of the meeting, President VÄ“jonis thanked the PAFI delegation for the visit and for assisting Latvia with the intake of refugees.
