I was shocked and saddened to learn that 26 Qataris were abducted in southern Iraq on Wednesday.
Unknown militants overran a camp and captured the group of Qataris who were engaged in a recreational hunting and safari trip near Samawa, 320 kilometers south of Baghdad.
This latest incident is a stark reminder of the increasingly dangerous and troublesome security situation in Iraq.
I urge the government of Iraq to do its utmost to ensure that all those who were abducted are returned to the safety of their families.
