I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences, as well as those of my colleagues at Peace Ambassadors for Iraq (PAFI), to the families of the victims of the attacks in Belgium on Tuesday.
As we saw in the attacks in Paris and recently in Turkey, the struggle against violent extremism will not be easy. It is a long-term challenge that requires multidimensional plans of action over many lines of effort.
This struggle will also require the solidarity of all nations to unite, not only against those individuals and groups whose only goal is to destroy, but also for those who support wider and deeper political and social reforms to ensure that the fundamental reasons that motivate these groups to perpetrate such violence and take hold of people and territory are eliminated once and for all.
We join those who seek to build bridges to peace between peoples and communities.
Again, we pray for the rest of the souls of the martyred victims.
Let Brussels overcome these sad days and return it to its time of happiness.
